Memorial Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer here in Michigan. It also marks the return of our weekly Beach and Boating forecast. Our Storm Team 8 meteorologists will make sure you know what to expect ahead of each weekend so you can plan accordingly. See this weekend’s forecast here.

If you plan to spend the summer at the beach, we have some good news, you are likely to find more sand than in previous years. Executive news producer Luke Stier visited 53 public beaches along Lake Michigan last week, updating the Lake Michigan Beach Guide with information about beach access, parking, amenities and more. Luke also joined meteorologist Matt Kirkwood and digital anchor Luke Laster to talk about the beach guide. Watch their conversation here.

A lot of you will be putting your boats in the water and opening summer cottages this weekend, while others will be taking the kids to a local Memorial Day parade to honor those who died serving our country. Wherever you are, there is likely to be a parade nearby. Site producer Madalyn Buursma compiled a list of Memorial Day parades and events. View the guide here.

Finally, on Monday evening at 7 p.m., anchors Teresa Weakley and Donovan Long bring you a half-hour special on Mental Health. The pair have been delving into this important topic throughout the month – which is Mental Health Awareness month. Watch the promo for the special by clicking on the image above.
