GR Foundation awards $1 million in scholarships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – For the third year in a row, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation has awarded over $1 million dollars in scholarships.This year, 630 deserving students received scholarships totaling $1,148,150, the largest sum to date.Grand Rapids Community Foundation is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community. 47% of the scholarships went to 1st generation college students, and 30% were awarded to diverse populations.The Grand Rapids Community Foundation uses a big team of 94 volunteers to help review the 2,244 scholarship applicants. Applicants are selected by different criteria such as academic achievement, intended major and financial need.Grand Rapids Public Schools students were also big recipients of scholarships. 84 GRPS students received scholarships that totaled $166,300. Students awarded scholarships went to a variety of Michigan schools including locally, Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College and Ferris State University.The Grand Rapids Community Foundation has been working to make positive and sustainable change in Kent County since 1922.Find out more about the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and how it they are Connecting with Community.
