Photojournalist Nick Ponton is the chief of the News 8 Kalamazoo Bureau.
Since joining News 8 in June 2010, Nick has responded to a number of major breaking news cases with a focus on the Kalamazoo area and Southwest Michigan. He helped cover the 2016 Kalamazoo shooting spree and the bicycle crash near Kalamazoo that killed five people the same year. He also went to the scene where Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ryan Proxmire was fatally shot in 2021.
In addition, Nick covers Kalamazoo-area schools and politics. He also often travels with the News 8 sports team to various tournaments and championships.
