Gabrielle Phifer

Gabrielle Phifer joined the News 8 staff in September 2021 as a general assignment reporter.

While she has lived in the Midwest and is excited to be back, Gabrielle is new to the Mitten, coming all the way from Arkansas: Woo Pig Sooie!

Gabrielle spent nearly three years working at KTVE/KARD in El Dorado, Arkansas, where she was the chief bureau reporter and alternate anchor. The best part for her was covering news in her hometown of Crossett. Go Eagles!

Prior to Gabrielle’s first job covering news in the ArkLaMiss region, she received her master’s degree from the Medill school of Journalism at Northwestern University. She also has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

While studying in the Medill program, Gabrielle spent a week in Johannesburg, South Africa. She covered the country’s politics following the Nelson Mandela era and its impact on youths. She also spent a summer in Washington, D.C., as a credentialed Capitol Hill reporter.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and National Association of Black Journalists.

Gabrielle lives by the motto “Never give up on you.” She is passionate about people and telling great stories that are informative, engaging and inspiring. Above all, she is eager to be part of the West Michigan community.
