Casey Jones

Casey Jones became the director of community affairs in July 2021, nearly nine years after he joined WOOD TV8.

He has always been absorbed in West Michigan. He was born and raised on the West Side of Grand Rapids and went to West Catholic for high school. After graduating from Grand Valley State University with a degree in broadcast journalism, he worked as a multi-media sports and news journalist in South Bend, IN. Following a year in the Hoosier state, he became the weekend sports anchor at WOOD TV8 in 2012.

In August of 2015, he was named the weekday anchor of “Daybreak.”

He has been a part of some of West Michigan’s most impactful moments, remarkable triumphs, significant tragedy. He has always tried his best to walk alongside of the community and share their story because they have the same passion for West Michigan — it’s home. It’s where he lives with his lovely wife Jessica and their busy son Leo.

Since starting at WOOD TV8 as an intern in 2009, connecting with community has always been his focus. That focus remains steadfast, continuing a more than 70-year legacy of community partnerships, initiatives, and outreach efforts like Clear the Shelters, Angel Tree Toy Drive, Community Spotlight, and more. You may even see him, On Your Corner.

“I’m excited to use the foundations this stationed has established to build an even greater outreach of our commitment to community through storytelling and relationships. Above all, I’m honored to continue to serve both here at WOOD TV8 and throughout West Michigan,” Jones said.
