Blake Harms is the weekend evening meteorologist and school closing predictions specialist at Storm Team 8. He joined the team in November 2022.
Blake’s West Michigan roots run deep. He was raised in Hudsonville, where his family still lives. He graduated from Hudsonville High School in 2017. Blake then earned his bachelor of science in meteorology from Valparaiso University in northwest Indiana, where he graduated from in May 2021.
Blake’s on-air meteorology career began at WLNS, WOOD TV8’s sister station in Lansing, where he delivered more than 8,000 forecasts for the morning newscast. Blake was a part of continuous coverage when more than a half dozen tornado warnings were issued for the viewing area. He also helped cover one of Lansing’s biggest snowstorms on record, when more than a foot of snow fell in a single day.
While Lansing was a great place to be, it wasn’t home and Blake was thrilled at the opportunity to come home to West Michigan and forecast alongside the meteorologists he grew up watching!
Blake’s on-air time at WOOD TV8 may have started in November 2022 but he has been involved with Storm Team 8 for years. He partnered with the station in 2019 to provide school closing predictions and it has continued to grow in the three winters since.
Blake does some work with Berlin Raceway on their broadcast team as a play-by-play analyst and pit road reporter. On Sundays, you can usually find him watching NASCAR on NBC.
