Dreams can and do come true. Just ask Red Wings hockey player Justin Abdelkader. Born and raised in West Michigan, he played hockey and dreamed of playing hockey in Detroit and then one day got that call.

He’s a fixture at left wing for the Red Wings, joining the roster in Detroit in 2009. Now he’s turning that passion into something more, trying to influence the next generation of potential hockey players. He has written a book “Shoot for the Goal”. In his book he shares his story of the struggles and obstacles he faced on the road  to the NHL. He hopes sharing the story will show young people that perseverance and hard work pay off.

Justin also recently teamed up with Milk Means More. He tells Maranda he knows the importance of making healthy choices in life and that in his sport, as with so many, recovery after a game is key. He drinks chocolate milk to help in that recovery, saying he realizes what an important part it plays in getting nutrients and staying healthy.
