GRAND RAPIDS, Mich (WOOD) - It's the end of the week, so for those who are big into high school sports, Friday nights mean football frenzy! EightWest talks about a program that allows us to do some Gridiron Giving! Jim Haskins of the OK Conference and Devin Pierson from Helen DeVos Children's Hospital joined eightWest to share how you can cheer on your local high school athletes and support the hospital.
Twenty OK Conference schools have selected a 2013 season home game to designate as their Gridiron Giving game and more are expected to sign up as the football season draws near. Student representatives from each participating school will work to promote the game to their fans and ESPN 96.1 will also promote the games on air and online. During that school’s Gridiron Giving game, Wendy’s volunteers and students at the ticket booth and/or gate will ask attendees for a donation of $1.00 or more to support programs and services at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.Raising money is not limited to that school’s Gridiron Giving game, as students can hold fundraising efforts throughout the season. The combined total raised by all participating schools will be announced at a celebratory luncheon in November attended by representatives from each school.
To participate in Gridiron Giving, simply attend one of the home games listed below and make a donation at the gate:
- Holland Christian High School
- Hopkins High School
- Caledonia High School
- Comstock Park High School
