COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD) - The lights will be on at Fifth Third Ballpark during a Friday night later this year for a different kind of "fall classic."
The football teams from Greenville High School and Forest Hills Northern High School will battle in a game to help raise funds for the Forest Hills Public Schools Athletic Department.
The OK Bronze Conference matchup will kick off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the field in Comstock Park. Forest Hills Northern will be the home team.
Tickets will be $5 for students and $7 for the general public. Additional details and the ticket on-sale date will be announced later, according to a news release.
A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, sponsorships, parking, and food and beverage will go to support the Forest Hills district.
"Our kids are very excited to play at the ballpark," Forest Hills Northern Athletic Director Stephanie Hare said. "The Fifth Third Ballpark facilities give the athletes an opportunity to experience playing in a non-traditional setting. Athletes, parents and coaches are looking forward to the October 11th event."
The Ballpark is the home for the West Michigan Whitecaps minor league baseball team. It has hosted other football games, including Rockford vs. Muskegon in 2010; Forest Hills Central vs. East Grand Rapids in 2012; and Grand Valley State vs. Wayne State, which was the gridiron event debut in 2007. Concerts, high school and college baseball games, beer festivals, corporate outings and carnivals have also taken place at the stadium.
Organizers say it would mark the largest effort yet in a push for higher pay.
