Grand Rapids, Mich. (WOOD) - The Grand Rapids Griffins hit the ice for their home opener Friday, but the defending Calder Cup champions lost to the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2.

The game was the 18th home opener in a row to sell out at Van Andel Arena downtown, Griffins officials said. However, this year, tickets went even faster than ever before, due in part to last year’s championship season.
"Sales are great. Obviously the championship last year did great for the team,” said Michael Myeno, who is the season ticket salesman for the Griffins. “There's a lot of support in Grand Rapids and more season ticket holders than ever now.”
