GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The Grand Rapids Griffins are getting some much-needed help in the AHL Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Barons.
On Thursday, the Griffins announced that following the end of the Detroit Red Wings season with a Wednesday night loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Western Conference semifinals, three players, including Gustav Nyquist, Joakim Andersson and Jordan Pearce, would be joining the Griffins in Oklahoma City.
The Griffins trail the Barons 2-1 in the series. Game 4 is Friday night in Oklahoma.
Nyquist, 23, led the Griffins during the regular season with 60 points in 58 games, which landed him on the AHL First All-Star Team. He was the 12th highest scorer in the league. He played in 36 games for the Red Wings this season, scoring five goals and assisting on six others.
Andersson, 24, played in 36 games for the Griffins this season, scoring 10 goals and assisting on 17 others. He played in 52 games for Detroit, tallying four goals and nine assists.
Pearce, a 26-year-old goalie, ranks eighth among the Griffins goaltending leaders with 73 games played and 1,738 saves.
