MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) - A Kentwood golfer took the lead in the Michigan Amateur Championship Tuesday.
Tuesday, Tom Werkmeister got an eagle-3 on the 18th hole, which is a par 5 hole, and secured the first-round lead in the Michigan Amateur Championship.
Werkmeister shot a 70 Tuesday at the Muskegon Country Club -- two under par -- and has a one-shot lead over four competitors: Justin Pahl, 17, of White Lake; Mark Foster, 22, of Davison; Blake English, 22, of Charlotte; and Andrew Chapman, 33, of Traverse City.
Wednesday, the final round of stroke play will determine which 64 golfers play in single-elimination matches, which run Thursday through Saturday.
Werkmeister previously won the Michigan Amateur in 2009.
He won the Michigan Open last week, making him the first amateur to do so in 38 years.
