24 Hour News 8 web staff - GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) -- Water rescue crews worked to free the driver of a vehicle that was driven through flooded water early Sunday morning.
Crews were called just after 2 a.m. to Indian Mounds Drive SW and I-196 west of Market Avenue. Authorities were told an occupied vehicle was stuck in a flooded area. When crews arrived on scene they found the vehicle, however the driver was no where to be found.
Around 2:45 a.m., authorities reported hearing a man shouting for help. They located the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, on a small island in the middle of flooded water about a half mile away from where the vehicle was found.
Rescue crews reached the man shortly after and immediately gave him medical attention. He was removed from the water around 4:15 a.m.
The man was uncooperative with emergency crews and deep water made it difficult to get the him to safety.
An ambulance transported the man to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. His condition was unknown Sunday afternoon.
