Police: GR brothers suspected in mid-MI double homicide

24 Hour News 8 web staff - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) -- Michigan State Police say two brothers from Grand Rapids have been arrested in connection to a mid-Michigan double homicide.

MSP says troopers took the first person of interest, a 31-year-old man, into custody on Saturday night. Around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, MSP and Grand Rapids police executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Stewart Street SW, at which point a 23-year-old man was taken into custody.

The arrests come after the bodies of two men were found in a car in a Wal-Mart parking lot near Owosso on Friday evening. WEYI-TV reports the victims were identified as 31-year-old Joseph Carson and 39-year-old Anthony Lee Hammond, both from Flint.

According to WLNS, WOOD TV8's Lansing sister station, MSP says the suspects and victims met on Craigslist and agreed to meet at the Wal-Mart so the Grand Rapids brothers could buy marijuana from the victims. Instead, police say, the brothers decided to steal the marijuana and shot the Flint men.

The brothers were taken to the Shiawassee County Jail and are expected to be formally charged this week. Their names had not been released as of Sunday evening.

Troopers say they have also impounded a vehicle in connection to the investigation.
