KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Michigan Works! is recruiting transportation maintenance workers on behalf of the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The temporary jobs pay $15 to $19 per hour and are available in Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties. The employment period will span from Nov. 12, 2013 to March 15, 2014.
Transportation maintenance workers are responsible for snow removal on highways and bridges. Additional responsibilities will include: pothole patching, guardrail repair, cable median barrier repair, sign repair, and other similar duties as assigned, according to a news release.
Applicants must provide a printout of their driving record from the Secretary of State's office and a valid Class A CDL with an X or N endorsement.
They must also attend one of the following information sessions:
- Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. or Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. at the Kalamazoo MDOT office at 1501 E. Kilgore Road
- Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. or Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Benton Harbor Michigan Works! office at 499 W. Main St.
Applicants attending the information sessions should be prepared to complete an application and participate in an interview.
Eligible candidates must be high school graduates, have a driving record with less than five points, pass a drug screening, have three to five years of experience operating farm or construction equipment, and possess an air brake endorsement.
