CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A person accused of stealing a vehicle died in a fiery crash in St. Joseph County.
The vehicle was stolen in Sturgis, police said. The driver then drove north on Lutz Road, near Featherstone Road in Constantine Township, about 15 miles west of Sturgis, police said.
The driver was speeding and the vehicle went off the west side of the road and struck two trees, according to a news release. The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane facing south.
The vehicle then became engulfed in flames as responders arrived at the scene around 1:21 a.m. Sunday.
The driver was unable to be rescued and died at the scene.
The victim’s name has not been released.
A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night for an innocent bystander who was shot and killed in October.
Police are investigating a report of a home invasion, but say there are inconsistencies.
Police say they haven't been able to find out which student was responsible after a Muskegon kindergartner was choked with his own scarf on the playground.
