LINCOLN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man from Illinois died in a crash that occurred in West Michigan.
The victim was Michael Harper, 50, from Park Ridge.
A passerby called 911 after seeing the wreck around 11:09 p.m. Wednesday on Marquette Woods Road near I-94, north of Stevensville
Lincoln Township police officers arrived and noticed a Dodge Durango had rolled over after striking a utility pole. Harper was the driver and lone occupant. He was trapped inside the vehicle and deceased, according to a news release.
There were no witnesses to the crash and evidence at the scene does not indicate any other vehicles were involved.
The speed limit in the area is 30 miles per hour, and “it appeared the vehicle was traveling significantly above that,” police said.
Harper was belted in the vehicle, and it is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
The Berrien County Sherriff's Department accident reconstruction unit assisted at the scene.
This incident remains under investigation.
