PAW PAW, Mich. (WOOD) - Police have jailed a 38-year-old man in connection to the late Tuesday night stabbing death of a man at a Paw Paw hotel.
William Chance Stephens has been arrested in connection to the death of Trey Yarbrough, 20, of Kalamazoo.
Police say Yarbrough was stabbed repeatedly in a violent attack at the Lakeside Inn on W. Michigan Avenue. Yarbrough was able to call 911 and get to the Marathon gas station across the street from the inn, but he died as a result of his injuries.
Authorities did not release a suspect's name Wednesday, but Michigan State Police records show that Stephens was arrested by troopers from the Paw Paw post Wednesday.
He was being held on a homicide warrant request, though prosecutors said they had not yet decided what charges he may face.
Stephens has a criminal history and was released from a jail in Daviess County, Kentucky in February. Jail officials there say he was only being held there while being transported to another facility.
It was not immediately clear from which facility Stephens was coming or where he was going. Records reportedly showed he was from Wood River, Illinois.
Police arrested Stephens after an eight-hour manhunt led them to Battle Creek, where Paw Paw police say the suspect was arrested in a parking lot.
Investigators did not release the location of the arrest and only said "investigative resources" led them to Stephens.
Wednesday police said the suspect could see a first court appearance on Thursday. Prosecutors said they had not yet gotten all of the reports late Wednesday.
