PAW PAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries after colliding with a car near Paw Paw Monday.
It happened around 2:45 p.m. on M-40 south of S. Lagrave Street in Paw Paw Township, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department.
A 43-year-old Decatur woman was driving south on M-40 in a Chrysler 300 and then performed a U-turn to the north.
The southbound motorcyclist, a 57-year-old Portage man, was passing another vehicle and lost control, witnesses said. He started to fishtail and then his bike to hit the side of the Chrysler.
The motorcyclist was transported to Bronson Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw and then Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo with serious injuries.
The driver of the car complained of head pain and was transported to Bronson Lakeview Hospital.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and the driver of the car was wearing her seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor, police said.
The crash remains under investigation. The case will be sent to the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Vehicles occupied by a sheriff's deputy and a Michigan State Police motor carrier officer were hit.
A fire damaged three garages and some homes in a Grand Haven neighborhood early Thursday morning.
The suspects stole cash and fled the scene.
