GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - Crews have scaled back the search for a man who is believed to have drowned in Lake Michigan.
John English, 47, drowned after diving off the back of a boat on Sunday when it came to a stop less than a mile out from North Beach Park.
After three and a half days of searching, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said that as of Thursday, sonar devices were no longer being used to search for English's body.
Instead, recovery crews turned their attention to the lake's surface and shoreline.
Wednesday, a memorial service was held for English at a church in Grand Rapids.
Hundreds of firefighters and EMTs from across the country showed up to pay tribute to English, who was a paramedic for Life EMS.
