WEST OLIVE, Mich. (WOOD) - An Ottawa County sheriff's deputy has been suspended following an investigation into "inappropriate behavior."
Deputy Matt VanLiere has been placed on a 30-day unpaid suspension for a "recent situation," according to Ottawa County Undersheriff Greg Steigenga.
An internal investigation found that VanLiere had not engaged in any criminal activity, but that he had violated internal policy and procedure, Steigenga said in an email to 24 Hour News 8.
The violation involved a "personal relationship that to some extent had resulted in inappropriate behavior" in relation to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department's conduct policy, Steigenga wrote.
"The Sheriff's Office continues to maintain an expectation of utmost professionalism on the part of our employees and matters of behavior that are not in line with this standard are dealt with accordingly," Steigenga stated.
