COOPERSVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) - A man driving a milk tanker truck fell asleep, resulting in the rig to crash on an Ottawa County highway, police said.
The driver was traveling around 7 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 96 near the 48th Avenue exit near Coopersville.
The truck was eastbound, crossed the median, went off the shoulder of the highway and rolled onto its side.
The driver -- 48-year-old Phillip Scott of Muskegon -- was transported to a hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
The trailer was empty but the truck leaked some fuel, so a hazardous materials crew was dispatched to the scene.
A portion of the highway was closed for four hours as crews cleared the scene.
