MARNE, Mich. (WOOD) - An Ottawa County business man is in trouble after trying to scam several West Michigan residents.
According to federal documents, Roger Andrews, who owns a pallet company in Marne, used his business to make friends and foster partnerships with people.
Federal investigators said Andrews told people he was investing in a property in Indiana but needed money to fix it up to sell it for a substantial profit.
Investigators said Andrews wrote up fake documents about the property and promised to pay the money back.
According to documents, Andrews borrowed nearly 2 million dollars and then used the money to pay for his own investments on an online trading website. Andrews never owned any property in Indiana, according to federal prosecutors.
If convicted, Andrews would have to pay back all of the money and would face prison time.
