HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - An Ottawa County sheriff's deputy and a woman were hospitalized Wednesday after her car struck his cruiser, authorities say.
Deputy Steve Burgess was driving west on James Street near 120th Avenue in Holland Township around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, responding to a call of a felony in progress. His vehicle's emergency lights were flashing and siren was sounding, according to the accident report.
As he approached 120th Avenue, he had the red traffic light. He stopped and then pulled into the intersection, at which point his cruiser was struck by a northbound car, police said.
The northbound vehicle was driven by Ai Qun Vang, 43, of Holland Township.
Burgess and Vang were both transported to Holland Hospital. Vang's injuries were minor. Burgess was listed in good condition as of Wednesday evening, according to the accident report.
Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
A woman from Mount Pleasant died after her SUV crashed on a road in Montcalm County.
Mirror parts found at the scene indicate it may be a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander.
An observation survey was conducted by the Wayne State University Transportation Research Group.
