LONG LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 17-year-old Traverse City boy has drowned while swimming at a beach on an inland lake in the northwestern Lower Peninsula.
The Grand Traverse County sheriff's department identifies the youth as Owen Williamson. It says Williamson was in the water Friday when he started calling out for help, then sank beneath the surface.
The beach is at Twin Lakes Park in Long Lake Township.
TV stations WPBN/WTOM says a female friend spotted him and pulled him to the surface.
Authorities say a rescue boat crew pulled Williamson to the shore, but efforts to revive him failed.
Reynolds Jonkoff Funeral Home says it will hold a visitation for Williamson from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church of Traverse City.
