ROTHBURY, Mich. (WOOD) - A man died after falling from the roof of Rothbury Steel Wednesday morning.
Authorities were first called to the facility at 2625 W. Winston Road in Rothbury around 11 a.m., Oceana County Sheriff's Lt. Craig Mast said. Callers said a man was unresponsive after falling about 30 feet.
Emergency responders found the man, 43-year-old Kevin W. Dilts of Muskegon, had already died of his injuries when they arrived.
He had been working for a contractor and was taking measurements and photos on the roof.
A preliminary investigation shows Dilts appears to have slipped, fallen backward through a skylight and then 30 feet to the foundry floor.
Grant Township Rescue, Oceana County EMS, the Oceana County Sheriff's Office and the Oceana County Victim's Services Unit responded.
Organizers say it would mark the largest effort yet in a push for higher pay.
A fire damaged a vacant house in Kalamazoo, and the cause is being ruled as suspicious.
A man was transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation following a standoff in Grand Rapids.
