WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WOOD) - Months after a White Cloud teacher and coach was put on leave and weeks after he was actually charged with criminal sexual conduct against students, details about the allegations against him are available.
Ethan Wendell was put on leave in April as the school and police investigated the allegations. He has been charged with five counts of criminal sexual conduct.
But information about those charges was difficult to get after it was suppressed under a little-used Michigan law from the 1980s.
After obtaining probable cause documents via the Freedom of Information Act Tuesday, 24 Hour News 8 learned Wendell allegedly had sexual contact with at least two female students.
He is accused of inappropriately touching kissing them while inside the school and on separate occasions.
Court documents show the alleged crimes occurred in October 2010 with one victim, which led to three of the charges; and and April 2013 with another, which accounts for the two other charges.
Wendell is free on bond. School officials have not answered calls from 24 Hour News 8 to clarify his employment status.
