FOND DU LAC, Wisc. (WOOD) - A Wisconsin man has pleaded not guilty in a case in which police said he crashed his car into a group of motorcyclists from West Michigan, killing two of them.
Clinton Lovelace, 25, appeared in the Fond Du Lac (Wisc.) Courthouse on Friday, WLUK reports.
He was originally charged with six counts. On Friday, six more were added, stemming from the May 31 crash --
-- Two counts of vehicular homicide while using a controlled substance
-- Three counts of causing injury while operating a vehicle/using a controlled substance
-- Five counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety
-- Two counts of felony bail jumping
Lovelace was taking two prescription drugs at the time of the crash, police said. A deputy testified that while searching Lovelace's car, he found two syringes and sealed bags with small pieces of brown paper. The deputy believes the paraphernalia was likely used for drugs, such as acid or LSD. Lovelace told investigators he didn't know why he had the syringes and paper.
If convicted on all counts, Lovelace could face more than 90 years in prison.
He was driving on Highway 151 near Welling Beach Road in the Town of Taycheedah, Wisc., when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with 10 of the 12 motorcyclists, police said.
Dan Winsemius, 59, from Twin Lake died at the scene. Douglas Yonkers, 43, from Muskegon died at a hospital about a week later.
Eight other motorcyclists and Lovelace were also injured. Lovelace was arrested after being released from a hospital.
