KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) - Monday, what was left of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Kentwood was demolished.
Tuesday, 24 Hour News 8 learned the criminal investigation into the fire that destroyed the church is closed.
Kentwood Police Chief Richard Mattice said his detectives have ruled the July 1 blaze accidental.
Fireworks were earlier thought to be the cause after every other possible cause was ruled out.
Despite numerous interviews with potential witnesses, authorities were not able to connect the fireworks to any one person. Without concrete evidence, authorities cannot request charges against anyone.
