PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A Wednesday garage fire in Plainfield Township is believed to have been caused by a lightning strike.
The fire in the 6500 block of Rougeview Court sent black smoke billowing into the sky around 6 p.m.
Neighbors noticed the flames coming from the garage and notified the occupants of the house, according to the Plainfield Township Fire Department. Everyone exited safely, including two family kittens rescued by firefighters.
The fire crept into the attic of the house, but was knocked down quickly by firefighters from Plainfield and Canon Township fire departments.
The garage and boat inside it are both total losses.
The house itself also sustained some smoke and water damage.
