Daniel Eugene Murphy was charged with failure to stop at scene of a personal injury accident and careless driving.
Katie Hamel was riding her bike along Three Mile Road in Grand Rapids Township on June 17 when she was hit from behind by a car. She was wearing a helmet.
The driver left the scene of the crash.
Hamel, who was 15 at the time, suffered serious injuries. She wore a neck brace on her 16th birthday.
Murphy turned himself in to the Kent County Sheriff's Department earlier this month.
He is expected to be back in court Sept. 10 for a pre-trial hearing.
