CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - An adult and child were hospitalized Monday after a bicycle pulling a child carrier was hit by an SUV.
The crash happened before 4 p.m. on Belding Road NE (M-44) near Blakely Drive in Cannon Township.
The child, who is 3 years old, was in the carrier, which was being pulled by his father as they were on the way to pick up the boy's 6-year-old brother, a family member said.
Both father and son were taken to the hospital.
The 3-year-old boy was later released, family members said. The father -- who required stitches to his head -- will remain in the hospital for observation but is expected to be OK.
Police said that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. Two people were arrested: The SUV driver on suspicion of driving under the influence and her passenger due to his disorderly conduct at the scene.
"That makes me very, very furious," the father's sister Sara Oren said. "Just seeing the cart and the way that it's mangled I can't imagine my little nephew in there."
It's not yet known what charges the driver and passenger will face. They were both booked in the Kent County jail.
A portion of Belding Road near the scene was shut down for a time after the crash.
The heaviest snow showers will track through midday.
