PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - An apparent drunk driver collided head-on with another vehicle occupied by a woman and four children late Thursday night, police said.
Police say Sharla Vanhorn, 36, from Newaygo, was driving south on Post Drive from Pine Island and trying to turn into the BP gas station near the U.S. 131 interchange in Plainfield Township.
Mitchel Keizer, 25, from Rockford was traveling north on Post Drive, when police say his vehicle crossed into the center turn lane and collided with Vanhorn's vehicle head-on.
Police and rescue personnel arrived at the scene around 11:39 p.m.
Vanhorn suffered a possible broken arm, as did 11-year-old Hannah Vanhorn of Newaygo. Another child passenger, 11-year-old Crystal Walker of Cedar Springs, suffered cuts on her abdomen; 7-year-old Haylee Walker of Cedar Springs had back and chest pain; and 10-year-old Madison Bush of Comstock Park suffered some loose teeth.
Keizer suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Everybody was wearing seat belts and taken to hospitals.
Police said alcohol appears to be a factor in the collision.
