GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Four suspicious fires that have destroyed garages in the same Gaines Township apartment complex in the last month have investigators asking the public for help.
The first fire at the Woodfield Apartment complex near 60th and Eastern happened a month ago. The last was discovered just before 10 p.m. Wednesday night.
So far, only the second fire, which destroyed the rest of the garages which burned in the December 10 blaze, has been ruled arson, according to Dutton/ Cuttlerville Fire Chief Russ Jansen.
Jansen said state fire marshal investigators are trying to determine what caused the others.
The fire on December 10 was followed by one on December 17 at the Woodfield Complex.
The third fire occurred January 2 at Woodfield East, located across Eastern Avenue from the other Woodfield complex.
24 Hour News 8 attempted to contact residents near the fires, but were told to leave by a Woodfield employee who refused to identify himself.
Chief Jansen said if residents see anyone who looks suspicious, they should call the Kent County Sheriff's Department or Silent Observer.
