OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man was allegedly drunk when he crashed his pickup truck while trying to pass a dump trunk Monday afternoon.
The 72-year-old Belding resident suffered serious injuries, transported via Aero Med to a hospital and listed as stable.
He was traveling east on 14 Mile Road around 4:30 p.m. and tried to complete the passing maneuver near Lappley Avenue NE in Oakfield Township.
But his Ford F-150 clipped the left-side, front fender of the dump truck, causing the pickup truck to spin out of control, roll several times and hit three trees before coming to rest on its left side.
Michigan State Police told 24 Hour News 8 the driver of the pickup truck was not wearing a seat belt, and that alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
Wind chills will be in the single figures Thursday, with snowfall totals in the 1- to 3-inch range.
The passenger in a pickup truck that slid off U.S. 31 and rolled over told 24 Hour News 8 that watching the video of the crash is "heart-wrenching."
One person is dead after firefighters found the victim's body inside a condominium complex in Kalamazoo Township that was on fire Wednesday afternoon.
