KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A Cooper Township man driving his motorcycle was killed after colliding with an SUV.
The crash happened in the 4100 block of N. Westnedge Avenue in Kalamazoo Township around 5 p.m. Friday, according to Kalamazoo Township police.
Steven Michael Merriam, 25, was "traveling north at a high rate of speed (well in excess of the 35 mph posted speed"), according to a news release.
Police said his motorcycle then struck an SUV that was exiting a private drive.
Merriam sustained serious injuries to his head and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said he wasn't wearing a helmet.
The 74-year-old Middleville man driving the SUV sustained a minor laceration from broken glass. His name is being withheld.
The Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy, which has not yet been scheduled.
