VICKSBURG, Mich. (WOOD) - Police found a man dead in a wooded area after he allegedly assaulted a woman.
Deputies from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department, as well as officers from Vicksburg and Schoolcraft, responded around 5:54 a.m. Sunday to Grove Street in Vicksburg for a report of an assault in progress involving a firearm.
When authorities arrived they saw a 42-year-old woman who reported being strangled by a man and assaulted with a handgun.
An ambulance transported her to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo so she could be treated for her injuries.
Officers located the 48-year-old suspect from Springport in a nearby wooded area dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a news release.
His name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
