KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Tuition will increase 3.57% at Western Michigan University next year.
The WMU Board of Trustees approved the increase in tuition and required fees Wednesday.
Under the increase, annual tuition for a full-time Michigan freshmen or sophomores will be $10,355. Full-time, out-of-state freshmen or sophomores will pay $24,109.
Fees will go up by $47. Of that, $10 will support student media, including the newspaper and radio station. $16 will go to student transportation between Kalamazoo campus and the aviation campus in Battle Creek. Both of those fees were approved by the student body in a campus-wide vote.
The other $21 in fees will cover on-campus transportation.
Under a room-and-board freeze that is part of the Western Edge program, students who live in WMU's residence halls and have lived there each year since their freshman year will continue to pay the same entering rate.
Fred Glespie was found not guilty in the death of three children who died in an apartment fire.
Police are looking for the suspect in an armed robbery that occurred at a gas station in Plainwell Thursday night.
The rink will be open that day from 3-9 p.m.
