KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - The death of a 5-month-old Kalamazoo County baby last month has been termed a "flu-related death," county health officials said Dec. 26.
The baby tested positive for influenza but that may not be the actual cause of death, said Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services officer Linda Vail.
She said officials are seeing an earlier spike in flu cases this season. The number of flu cases already reported, she said, is about what is normally seen in February.
As of Dec. 20, 149 confirmed cases of the flu were reported in Michigan, up from 63 the previous week.
The flu is a contagious respiratory illness with symptoms that include fever, headache, fatigue, cough, stuffy or runny nose and muscle aches.

A four-vehicle crash has shut down Broadmoor Avenue in Caledonia.
The extravaganza was Dec. 11, 2013 in downtown Grand Rapids.
