GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD0 - On Feb. 15, Besham Sugrim was convicted of killing a Kalamazoo prostitute in 2003, then telling his wife and threatening to harm her and their children if she told anyone. Friday night, Dateline NBC airs a one-hour special on the case.
Linda Gibson was beaten and killed in an industrial area of Kalamazoo on Sept. 14, 2003. The case remained unsolved until Sugrim was arrested for beating his 11-year-old daughter. At that time, his wife, Bernadette Sugrim, came forward and told authorities he confided to her he killed Gibson, but threatened to harm her and their children if she said anything to anyone.
It only took a jury five hours to reach a verdict. All but one of the 12 jurors spoke with the Dateline crew about the case. Their interview is included in the special.
Besham Sugrim also spoke with the Dateline crew prior to being sentenced.
Dateline NBC covered the trial in Kalamazoo, as did 24 Hour News 8. You can watch the Dateline NBC story at 10 p.m. Friday on WOOD TV8.
