PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - A man who led police on a manhunt on the east side of the state has been arraigned on one count of open murder in the death of his ex-wife.
Clinton Smith, 58, was arraigned Monday morning in 8th District Court in Kalamazoo.
Police said the body of 56-year-old Delores Mae Smith was found in her apartment on Meredith Street in Portage on Thursday afternoon.
After Delores Mae Smith’s body was found, police notified the Saginaw Police Department about Clinton Smith, who was initially named a person of interest in the case, who was believed to be in Saginaw.
After a brief manhunt, police found Clinton Smith hiding under a trailer in the 1500 block of S. Warren Street in Saginaw.
Clinton Smith was transported back to the Kalamazoo County Jail Friday morning.
Police did not release information about a motive in the murder.
Clinton Smith is expected back in court on Sept. 30.
