RICHLAND, Mich. (WOOD) - Kalamazoo County authorities say the man killed in a head-on crash near Richland had run another car of the road before the Friday afternoon wreck.
It happened around 1 p.m. on North 32nd Street just south of DE Avenue in front of the Richland Township Fire Department, according to Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas.
Matyas said Ezell Gilland, 56, was driving a Chrysler Pacifica and was headed north in the southbound lanes when he hit a Dodge Charger head-on.
The Pacifica spun and Gilland was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Matyas said.
The driver of the Charger had to be extricated from his vehicle and was hospitalized with considerable pain, though he was responsive when he was loaded into an ambulance, Matyas said.
Before the wreck, the man had been driving erratically, running at least one other vehicle off the road. When one driver who had been run off the road pursued him and got him to stop. The driver of the Pacifica looked at the other man blankly before taking off again, Matyas said.
