PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - A vehicle struck and killed a man who fled a traffic stop on I-94 in Kalamazoo County Sunday night.
Portage police told 24 Hour News 8 at the scene that an officer was attempting to stop a vehicle in the eastbound lanes near the Portage Road exit in Portage around 10:49 p.m.
The suspect drove toward the exit, turned his pickup truck around onto the grass between ramp and the highway, and then struck a barricade, police said.
The driver then got out of the vehicle and ran, jumped over the median wall into the westbound lanes, where he was struck and killed, police said.
The driver has been identified as a 30-year-old Portage resident.
Police interviewed a passenger who was in the victim's vehicle.
The highway was closed for about three hours as police investigated the incident.
