KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A Kalamazoo man has been found guilty of murdering his roommate in October 2012.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers found 24-year-old Luke Vincent dead at his residence in the 700 block of Cedar Street on Oct. 21. Authorities said Vincent had been arguing with his girlfriend and his roommate, 34-year-old Brian Peterson, became involved and killed him.
Tuesday, a jury found Peterson guilty of second-degree murder.
The jury could have found Peterson guilty of first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence, but instead chose to find him guilty of second-degree murder, meaning he may eventually be eligible for parole.
