KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Observant officers located a fire at a home and prevented the flames from getting out of control.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers on routine patrol smelled smoke in the area of N. Westnedge Avenue, north of Paterson Street, around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
More officers were dispatched to the area to try and find the source of the smoke.
After several minutes of searching, officers noticed a fire at a residence in the 1400 block of N. Westnedge Avenue.
Firefighters were called to the scene, and the flames were extinguished and contained to the first floor of the home.
Nobody was in the home at the time.
The road was closed for about an hour as crews investigated and cleared the scene.
A cause of the fire is unknown.
A driver escaped safely after its vehicle crashed into the Grand River in Ottawa County Friday morning.
