BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - A former Calhoun County Jail guard accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old boy is expected to plead guilty to criminal sexual conduct charges Tuesday.
Troy Pope was charged in January with third-degree criminal sexual conduct. The victim in the case, which was set for trial, was not a jail inmate.
Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert told 24 Hour News 8 Pope is expected to plead guilty to that charge of CSC Tuesday morning. Lesser charges will be dismissed.
"Mr. Pope was a corrections officer, his counsel will be requesting his sentence to be served in federal prison. That will be decided by the Michigan Department of Corrections," Gilbert wrote.
A 16-year-old former inmate told Target 8 in March that Pope watched him in the shower. When he told a female jail nurse about it, she told him to be wary of Pope.
That nurse was later fired. She sued, saying she was wrongfully terminated because she spoke out against Pope, whose father was the county undersheriff at the time. The jail later settled with that nurse.
