GALESBURG, Mich. (WOOD) - Two semi-trucks collided along I-94 Thursday morning, killing one driver and closing that section of the highway for hours.
The wreck happened around 10:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 85 near Galesburg.
Both trucks were from Lansing-area company K&P Leasing. One was following the other when the first semi braked sharply. The second semi also braked but slammed into the lead truck. The driver of the second semi was killed.
The second truck caught fire.
Company officials declined to comment to 24 Hour News 8.
It's not clear if other accidents in the area or slick roads played a role in the crash.
Traffic was backed up on both sides of the highway. The westbound lanes were completely stopped as emergency crews took care of the accident scene. The road reopened about four hours later.
The Paw Paw branch of the Michigan State Police is investigating the crash.
