KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A Kalamazoo man already wanted on an outstanding warrant now faces more charges after allegedly hitting an officer with a car, inflicting minor injuries, and then fleeing police.
Plainclothes officers with the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team's Community Outreach Problem Solving Division (COPS) were at the Red Roof Inn on E Cork on an unrelated matter when they saw three people leave the lobby smelling of marijuana.
Officers recognized one of the men was a 22-year-old wanted on an outstanding warrant. They identified themselves to the suspect, but he took off, they said. He got into a car and hit an officer as he drove off.
The officer's injuries were minor and did not require treatment.
Authorities pursued the suspect and said he was driving "recklessly" along E Cork Street. The suspect managed to get away, but the car was later located in the 700 block of Keenway Circle.
Authorities used a K9 to track the suspect, but he was not found.
Authorities are seeking charges against the suspect for felonious assault, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and reckless driving.
The suspect's name has not yet been released.
