GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - The historic flooding that West Michigan experienced this month was significant enough that it was clearly visible -- even from space.
In a satellite image captured on April 5, and shared on NASA's Earth Observatory website, West Michigan appears bare and dry, and it's difficult to see the Grand River.
However, in a satellite image captured on April 21, the day the Grand River crested in downtown Grand Rapids, the picture was very different.
Not only was the Grand River a prominent blue in its path through West Michigan, but heavy rainfall and flooding saturated the ground, changing the landscape to a noticeably greener color.
