GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Police said Thursday that 30-year-old Jamie Powell -- who was shot to death at Old Orchard Apartments -- likely knew her killer.
However, questions remain; such as, why was a man seen sneaking out her window that day?
Walker police are stumped by the woman's death, but released new details about Saturday's shooting. First, officers said, there were no signs of a break-in, suggesting this was not random. The killer -- who fired more than one shot -- also was not a stranger, police said.
There were no signs of a struggle in the Walker woman's second-floor apartment and nothing appeared to be missing, according to police.
The focus of the investigation now centers around identifying the man spotted crawling out her apartment window around the same time as the shooting, said Deputy Chief Greg Long, of the Walker Police Department.
Police arrested a 21-year-old acquaintance, but questioned, released and cleared that person later.
Three Walker police detectives are working full time on the case, questioning friends and relatives. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Silent Observer.
